Hi there,
My name is Bryan, and I have a deep passion for the “Red Letters”, the things Jesus Christ literally spoke to the people around Him. I suggest what He shared 2000 centuries ago is still of ultimate significance for the present-day disciple. I believe that it’s the final say for each believer, for each principle reveals how God’s Kingdom functions. We really do need to think this through.
Over many years I’ve become convinced what He was announcing are the principal issues of the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus Christ is the only “God-man” in Scripture, the Supreme Creator, the second member of the Trinity. He deserves to be actively listened to. What Jesus shared must be considered in the light of who He is.
Many publishers print Bibles with everything Jesus said in red. It’s from that idea that this website is born–it’s the idea that He authoritatively distills the teaching of God’s Kingdom to us perfectly. What Jesus said communicates the ultimate nature of the reign of God. It’s good for us to consider the ‘radical’ teachings of Him, and understand them in our present-day life.
But it’s not the “black” verses are in anyway deficient, outdated and easily dismissed, but rather each of them find a connection to a red letter principle. It’s been said by many commentators that the OT is the NT concealed. The NT is the OT revealed. I suppose that is the premise of this blog.
The “Sermon on the Mount” is a case in point. There simply nothing like this particular text and teaching in any work of man. It communicates at an infinitely superior level that’s missing in anything man can churn out. It is supremely authoritative. The red letters, properly understood, will knock us on our butts every time!
I’ll try to work through each that Jesus spoke, from His experience as a boy in the temple, to His resurrection from the dead. I will be following, “A Harmony of the Words and Works of Jesus Christ” by J. Dwight Pentecost. Each selection will use the English Standard Version (ESV) unless another translation seems clearer.
I will try to be brief and concise with each event. I intend to put them in the order of which they were spoken.
Moses climbed Sinai to obtain the Law, the Lord Jesus sat in the grass on a mountain side to teach. He now declares a new ‘law’ of humble faith, a commitment to goodness and an effervescent joy in any circumstance. What Jesus spoke states God’s clear intentions for finite man. We must take a second look. It demands this from us.
